Alpina B5 Sedan (E60) from 2006 - a real collector's item with character: Engine & technology - more than just "a tuned BMW" Basis: BMW 545i (E60) - Alpina took the 4.4-liter V8 (M62TU) as the basis, instead of the later 4.8 or the M5 V10. Supercharger: Alpina equipped the engine with a radial compressor (centrifugal compressor from ASA) - smooth but powerful. Unlike a turbocharger, it delivers its power in a very linear manner. Characteristic curve: The engine is designed for strong torque at low engine speeds - no high-revving concept like in the M5, but more suitable for everyday use and more confident. Driving Behavior & Everyday Life Chassis: Specially tuned Alpina chassis with Bilstein components and Eibach springs. More comfortable than the M5, but still sporty. Automatic: ZF-5HP24 automatic – not DKG or SMG like the M5, but buttery smooth and perfect for cruising with power.
