Der Erfinder David Dunbar Buick baute 1903 in Detroit, Michigan, sein erstes Automobil. Da Buick mehr Konstrukteur als Geschäftsmann war, führte sein mangelndes unternehmerisches Talent zu zahlreichen Eigentümerwechseln, bevor der Gründer 1908 schließlich entlassen wurde. Sein Ausscheiden aus der Buick Motor Company fiel mit der Gründung von General Motors durch den neuen Eigentümer William C. Durant zusammen. Unter Durants Leitung stieg die Produktion drastisch an, und Ende der 1930er Jahre war Buick zu einem der beliebtesten Autos Amerikas geworden. Für 1936 wurde die Buick-Modellpalette stilistisch und mechanisch grundlegend überarbeitet. Anfang 1940 kamen die Modelle der Serie 50 auf den Markt, die eine besser ausgestattete Variante der Special Serie 40 darstellten und den Beinamen Super erhielten. Wie der Special hatte auch der Super einen Radstand von 3073 mm und eine neue Karosserie ohne Trittbretter mit in die vorderen Kotflügel integrierten Scheinwerfern. Der Kühlergrill hatte horizontale Chromleisten und war breit und in der Mitte stark hochgezogen. Neben einer viertürigen Touring-Limousine, einem zweitürigen Coupé und einem zweitürigen Cabriolet mit aufgesetztem Kofferraum gab es einen viertürigen Phaeton und einen fünftürigen Kombi. Bis zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurden 253.837 Fahrzeuge der Baureihe 50 gebaut. Danach wurden bis Herbst 1952 noch 1.170.204 Exemplare hergestellt.
Bei diesem Fahrzeug handelt sich um einen Oldtimer, der viele Jahre alt ist, mit zum Teil deutlichen Gebrauchs- und Abnutzungsspuren. Zudem können mehr oder minder professionell durchgeführte Restaurierungs-, Umbau- und Lackierungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt worden sein und eine Reihe optischer und technischer Mängel vorliegen.

Inventor David Dunbar Buick built his first automobile in Detroit, Michigan, in 1903. As Buick was more of a designer than a businessman, his lack of entrepreneurial talent led to numerous changes of ownership before the founder was finally dismissed in 1908. His departure from the Buick Motor Company coincided with the founding of General Motors by new owner William C. Durant. Under Durant's leadership, production increased dramatically, and by the late 1930s Buick had become one of America's most popular cars. For 1936, the Buick model lineup underwent a major styling and mechanical overhaul. At the beginning of 1940, the Series 50 models were launched, which were a better-equipped version of the Special Series 40 and were given the nickname “Super”. Like the “Special”, the “Super” also had a wheelbase of 3073 mm and a new body without running boards with headlights integrated into the front fenders. The radiator grille had horizontal chrome strips and was wide and strongly raised in the middle. In addition to a four-door touring saloon, a two-door coupé and a two-door convertible with an attached trunk, there was also a four-door Phaeton and a five-door estate. By the end of the Second World War, 253,837 vehicles of the 50 series had been built. After that, 1,170,204 units were produced until the fall of 1952.
