General info
German vehicle Classic Data from 2021 2+ Invoices available PLEASE NOTE: The premium for this vehicle is 5% of the hammer price. . Unbelievably prestigious, incredibly expensive, and when it comes down to it, incredibly fast – that's the coupé version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class from the W126 series. It's no surprise, then, that it not only became the preferred means of transport for successful businessmen, but also magically attracted characters of dubious repute. This temporarily tarnished the reputation of a car that was undoubtedly one of the best designs of its era. Even by today's standards, its performance and handling are simply outstanding. The coupé was unveiled at the 1981 Frankfurt Motor Show, two years after the launch of the S-Class sedan. It was available exclusively with V8 engines, initially as the 380 SEC and 500 SEC. After the model update in 1985, the former was replaced by the 420 SEC, and the 560 SEC was added. A total of 74,060 coupes were built, which represents less than 8% of total W126 production. Since many of these were victims of tuning or suffered from a clientele of third and fourth owners who neglected maintenance, unmodified, original examples are increasingly difficult to find today. This vehicle is a classic car that is many years old, with some noticeable signs of use and wear. Furthermore, more or less professionally performed restoration, modification, and paintwork may have been carried out, and a number of cosmetic and technical defects may be present. __________________________________________________ PLEASE NOTE: For this vehicle, the surcharge totals 10% of the hammer price. Unbeatably prestigious, horrendously expensive, and when the chips are down, also amazingly fast - that's the coupé version of Mercedes-Benz's S-class from the W126 series. It comes as no surprise that this became the transport of choice not only for successful businesspeople, but also for characters of a more dubious reputation, temporarily tarnishing the image of what is undoubtedly one of the best-engineered cars of its era. Even by today's standards, performance and ride quality are simply superb. The coupé was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show in 1981, two years after the S class sedan had been presented. It was only available with V8 engines, initially as 380 SEC and 500 SEC. After the 1985 model improvement, the former was replaced by the 420 SEC, and the 560 SEC was added. A total of 74,060 coupés were built, making up less than 8% of overall W126 output. As many of them became tuning victims or suffered under a clientele of 3rd and 4th hand owners who neglected maintenance, untinkered original examples are now becoming increasingly difficult to find. This vehicle is a vintage model, which is many years old, with some obvious traces of use and wear. In addition, some restorative, refurbishment and painting work may have been carried out more or less professionally and there may be a large number of optical and technical defects.
