General info
PLEASE NOTE: The premium for this vehicle is 5% of the hammer price. Excellently maintained Mercedes SL 280 Cabriolet - Garage-kept vehicle with very low mileage - Heirloom of the current owner, only 3 owners in total Mercedes-Benz presented its new SL of the R129 series at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. The predecessor had been on the market for an impressive 18 years, so the target audience was ready for the new car and embraced it enthusiastically. Early buyers had to accept a waiting period of several years. Bruno Sacco's aerodynamic, wedge-shaped lines won the International Car Design Award. Technologically, the new SL was very advanced, especially with regard to its safety features. These included a sensor-controlled automatic roll bar that deploys in 0.3 seconds when needed, as well as integral seats. The convertible top was no longer manually operated as in the R107, but electrohydraulically, opening and closing within 30 seconds. The aluminum hardtop was approximately 10 kg lighter than that of the previous model. The R129 was available with a variety of engines, ranging from 2.8 liters to 7.3 liters in displacement for the rare AMG V12 models. After 12 years and two facelifts (1995 and 1998), a total of 204,940 units had left the production halls, most of them with V8 engines. This vehicle is a classic car, many years old, with some noticeable signs of use and wear. In addition, it may have undergone more or less professional restoration, modification, and paintwork, and may have a number of cosmetic and technical defects. __________________________________________________ PLEASE NOTE: for this vehicle the surcharge totals 10% of the hammer price. At the 1989 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz presented the new SL from the R129 series. Its predecessor had been on the market for no less than 18 years, so the target group was more than ready for the new car and received it enthusiastically - so much so that early customers had to put up with a delivery period of several years. The aerodynamical wedge-shape design by Bruno Sacco won the international Car Design Award. Technologically, the new SL was very advanced, especially with regards to its safety features. They included a sensor-controlled automatic roll-over bar which would be raised within 0.3 seconds if needed, as well as integral seats. The fabric top mechanism was no longer manually operated as it had been in the R107, but electrohydraulically, it opened and closed within 30 seconds. The aluminum hardtop weighed about 10 kg less than the one of its predecessor. The R129 was available with a variety of engines, from 2.8 liters of capacity all the way up to 7.3 liters in the rare AMG V12 variants. A total of 204,940 examples were built over the course of 12 years, with two facelifts in 1995 and 1998, most of them equipped with V8 engines. This vehicle is a vintage model, which is many years old, with some obvious traces of use and wear. In addition, some restorative, refurbishment and painting work may have been carried out more or less professionally and there may be a large number of optical and technical defects.
