Mit neuem Lack im Originalfarbton, edel aufgearbeitetem Lederinterieur und stilgerechtem Hardtop präsentiert er sich wie frisch aus dem Showroom, ohne dabei seine authentische Patina zu verlieren. Das Mercedes-Benz Cabrio der Reihe R107 ersetzte die Pagode W113 im Jahr 1971. Während das abgelöste Modell ausschließlich mit 6-Zylinder-Motoren angeboten wurde, hatte Mercedes den Neuen mit genug Platz unter der Haube für größere Aggregate geplant, gewiss mit Blick auf den nordamerikanischen Markt - und genau dort war der SL dann auch höchst erfolgreich. Über einen Zeitraum von 18 Jahren wurden insgesamt 237.287 Cabrios im Stammwerk Sindelfingen gebaut, die meisten davon mit V8-Motoren unterschiedlichen Hubraums als 350, 380, 420, 450, 500 und 560 SL. 6-Zylinder-Modelle ergänzten das Angebot, zunächst als 280 SL von 1974 - 1985 und später als 300 SL von 1985 - 1989. Der 560 SL wurde exklusiv für die Märkte in Amerika, Australien und Japan gebaut. Noch schneller war jedoch der 500 SL in seiner europäischen Spezifikation, der aufgrund von Abgasrichtlinien in den USA nicht verkauft wurde. Dank fortwährender Innovation über die vielen Modelljahre setzte der R107 zahlreiche Standards. Als er 1989 schließlich vom R129 abgelöst wurde, schickte er sich bereits an, einer der ewigen Automobilklassiker zu werden.
Bei diesem Fahrzeug handelt sich um einen Oldtimer, der viele Jahre alt ist, mit zum Teil deutlichen Gebrauchs- und Abnutzungsspuren. The Mercedes-Benz roadsters of the R107 series replaced the W113 pagoda in 1971. While the outgoing model only featured 6-cylinder engines, Mercedes had planned the new car with enough room for larger power plants under the bonnet, obviously with the North-American market as their main target - and indeed, that is where the SL proved most successful. Over a production run of a full 18 years, a total of 237,287 convertibles were built at the factory's Sindelfingen plant, most of them equipped with V8 engines of varying capacity as 350, 380, 420, 450, 500 and 560 SL. 6-cylinder models were also offered, originally as 280 SL from 1974-1985 and later as 300 SL from 1985-1989.
