Leland and his son Wilfried in the USA in 1917. Initially, only aircraft engines were built. After World War I, preparations were made for the production of luxury automobiles. The first Lincoln was launched in 1920. For financial reasons, Leland sold the Lincoln factory to the Ford Motor Company. For Ford, this marked Ford's entry into the luxury car segment.
