The "Baby Benz" – this was the nickname given to the Mercedes-Benz 190 of the W201 series. With this, the brand ventured into a new market segment below the established luxury or upper mid-range models. The 190, introduced to the public in 1982 and available exclusively as a four-door sedan, was designed by Bruno Sacco. The focus during development was on passive safety, lightweight construction, and good aerodynamics: despite its angular shape, the 190 offered a drag coefficient of 0.33.
