General info
PLEASE NOTE: The premium for this vehicle is 5% of the hammer price. This 420 G was delivered new to Zambia and then arrived in Neu-Ulm, Germany, from Zimbabwe in the late 1980s. The restoration began shortly after registration in Germany. The "Big Gee" was disassembled and repainted. The Jaguar remained in this condition (with various owners) until restoration work resumed in the 2010s. This work included: - a bare metal full paint job (photo documentation) - a complete interior renovation - conversion from right-hand drive (RHD) to left-hand drive (LHD) - an extensive restoration of the axles, brakes, engine, and transmission, and much more - sensible optimizations, e.g. E.g., a high-performance radiator and a longer rear axle ratio for comfortable highway driving, etc. The Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms the matching number of the chassis, engine, and transmission. The Jaguar 420 was developed based on the Mark X with a 4.2-liter engine. Originally, the much more modern XJ6 was expected, but its development was delayed. However, the 420 already implemented some modern ideas. For example, the interior featured less wood and more plastic. However, the interior was upholstered for internal safety reasons. Even larger, more luxurious, and more powerful was the sister model, the Jaguar 420 G. The "G" stood for "Grand." Its size, equipment, and engine belonged to the luxury class. At 5.13 meters long, it was not only the largest Jaguar of the last century, but also the best and most expensive Jaguar car available in the 1960s – far more expensive than an E-Type. Although the model was offered alongside the all-new XJ6 when it was introduced in 1968, it was finally discontinued in 1971. This vehicle is a classic car of many years' age, with some noticeable signs of use and wear. Furthermore, it may have undergone more or less professional restoration, modification, and paintwork, and may have a number of cosmetic and technical defects.
